How Course Tickets Work

The first person to purchase a Course Ticket for a specific course collaborates directly with the teacher to select the initial time slot.

Once the schedule is set, the course is listed on our website and other channels so additional learners may join.

If no other students sign up, the course runs as a private class.

You are welcome to invite friends to join. All Course Ticket holders may contribute to scheduling decisions together.

This course is part of a 3 part series for intermediate, advanced, and proficient learners. Each course includes 8 live sessions, 60 minutes each, taught on Zoom and supported through Google Classroom.
Every class is built around interactive speaking practice, personalized dialogues, repeatable speaking scenes, and game based learning. Most materials are created by your instructor and adapted to the group. We also use selected public digital resources and trusted educational materials from publishers such as Hueber and Westermann.
Topics are chosen to match the level, interests, and goals of the learners. At the proficiency level, sessions focus on complex themes, subtle distinctions, and high level language use across culture, politics, geography, media, society, and public discourse in German speaking contexts.
In this course, we use interactive tools such as Kahoot, Roxxem, and Blooket to support speaking practice, repetition, vocabulary growth, and grammar in context. The curriculum provides direction, while each course also allows room for adjustment based on learner needs and interests.
Part 1: Dialogues and Speaking Practice
In the first half of each class, students work with dialogues, speaking scenes, guided role based interaction, and repeatable communication patterns that fit the level and interests of the group. These activities help learners use German with greater nuance, stronger control, and more confidence in high level speaking situations.
Participants practice responding, refining, interpreting, and extending language in more complex situations. Students are also encouraged to suggest themes, situations, and dialogue ideas for future sessions.
Part 2: Games, Patterns, and Expression
In the second half of each class, the focus shifts to interactive practice through games, structured repetition, vocabulary review, and applied grammar in context. Tools such as Kahoot, Roxxem, and Blooket help learners notice subtle patterns, respond more precisely, and reinforce what they have practiced in the dialogue work.
Grammar remains part of the course, but it is practiced through use rather than treated as the dry center of the lesson. Students work with advanced sentence patterns, idiomatic language, stylistic variation, register, and nuanced speaking structures through active response, repetition, and game based practice.

William Slattery
William Slattery is a certified New York State teacher and Fulbright Scholar who has several years of teaching experience. As a former business student, William has an interest in both current events and business strategy, which has allowed him to gain a critical understanding of the world around us. After studying at Fordham University in the Bronx, William fulfilled a life-long goal of moving to Austria on a Fulbright Scholarship. During his time in the Alps of Salzburg, William achieved both fluency in the German language, as well as a deep understanding of Austrian and Germanic culture. In conjunction with teaching Business English and German at the high school level, William has decided to help others study the German language either by Zoom or in person to help others share in the joys of becoming bilingual.
During his time studying English as a New Language at the graduate level at Hunter College in Manhattan, William gained a thorough knowledge of the most effective skills needed to help others learn a language and looks forward to working with you.

German-born Carmen Ketola is a native Professional German Language Teacher with a Master’s Degree in languages and education.
Her studies and expertise include:
