Nicolas Jacobi teaches German at Panera Bread, located at Sahara Rancho Corporate Center, across the street from Palace Station. The casual and social setting is ideal for students who want to improve their speaking skills and prepare for real world communication.

The rate is $80 plus a $40 travel fee. This option provides flexibility while still offering high quality, personalized instruction. All materials are provided by the teacher.

Group lessons for two or more students
Group tutoring is available for families, friends, classmates, or couples who want to learn together.
The rate is $80 for the first student, plus $20 per hour for each additional student. Lessons are tailored to meet the level and goals of each participant.
If your group includes five or more students, please contact us directly to discuss group scheduling and custom pricing. We are happy to create a program that fits your group’s learning goals.
Flexible Scheduling
We understand that life gets busy. That’s why we offer flexible scheduling with same-day rescheduling whenever possible.
On particularly busy days, free rescheduling may not be available, but we will always do our best to accommodate you.

My name is Nicolas Jacobi, and I am the founder of JacobiTeacher. For me, language is not just a system of rules, it’s a powerful tool for social interaction. However, German is a particularly rule-based language, and for many learners, it can seem to limit the freedom of conversation. But don’t worry, at JacobiTeacher, we focus on the social aspects of the language, and learning how to engage with German socially will make speaking it much easier and more enjoyable.
There are many reasons why people decide to learn German. Some want to speak the language fluently, while others may aim to read, write, sing, or pass a test. Whatever your reason, I am here to support you in achieving your personal goals, helping you navigate your learning process, and pushing you forward toward success.
We can create a personalized approach to learning German that incorporates your favorite topics and fits seamlessly into your schedule. I studied at the University of Cologne under Professor Kersten Reich, who shaped my teaching style using philosophies from John Dewey and constructivist teaching methods. I also draw inspiration from the works of Vera Birkenbihl, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Ayn Rand, Bernd Feuerherm, and Dr. Jürgen Zepp, whose ideas further shape how I approach language education.
A unique aspect of my teaching is political education. Many of the individuals who influenced my educational journey, such as John Dewey and Ayn Rand, have also shaped my political philosophy. While I offer insights into political concepts and their cultural contexts, I ensure that political education remains transparent and optional—it will never be forced or imposed on students. I believe that understanding political dynamics can enrich the learning experience, but it is always up to the student to decide the extent to which they engage with these discussions.
In my classes, I often switch between various teaching styles, including coach-style, activity-based, and blended learning approaches. My favorite method is Hybrid teaching, where I combine online and in-person learning experiences. However, I always adapt my methods to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, ensuring a tailored and effective learning experience.
I teach students of all ages, from children (7+) to teenagers and adults, offering lessons in both individual and group settings.

I’m Julia, a certified German language teacher with Bachelor's degree in German Studies and Pedagogics and a genuinely happy person because I’m living my dream life, though the path to get here was quite long.
My dedication was rewarded when I won the DAAD Scholarship twice, allowing me to study at Saarland University in Germany. Living and learning in Germany was an incredible opportunity to fully immerse myself in the language and culture.
While I was abroad, I reached a high level of fluency and passed the Goethe C2 (native level) exam in Washington D.C. all on my own.
With over 5 years of teaching experience, I’ve become skilled at creating personalized lesson plans and worksheets that fit each student’s needs. I specialize in teaching beginner to intermediate levels (A1-B2), conversational German practice, and exam preparation for the Goethe Zertifikat, TestDaF, and TELC certifications. My students love my lessons because I inspire them to grow and learn by setting a positive example. My students often tell me that my smile is contagious, and they enjoy our lessons because they are always engaging, humorous, and informative. As a professional German teacher, I guide my students with dedication and expertise.

While the availability of German audiobooks in the U.S. can be limited, Audible provides a wide variety of German language audiobooks that are perfect for practicing your listening skills. Audiobooks on Audible are available for Kindle, so you can read and listen at the same time. YOUTV
YOUTV is an online service offering access to German television channels, which is ideal for immersion learning. Since 2009, YOUTV has been providing a comprehensive selection of German TV channels. Although some channels have regional restrictions, this platform remains one of the best ways to integrate real-time German language exposure. Available on various devices, such as Amazon FireTV, Roku, Google TV, and smartphones.

Duolingo
Duolingo is a fantastic tool for building vocabulary and reinforcing basic language skills. Many of our students have started their German learning journey with Duolingo and have progressed rapidly with regular use. Duolingo rewards consistency by providing points, icons, and badges, making it a highly motivating platform. However, we recommend caution: for some learners, Duolingo can become frustrating if they are forced to repeat chapters. For a more flexible learning experience, Memrise may be a better alternative.
(Note: Duolingo is most beneficial when combined with more immersive tools, like the ones we offer at Learn German America.)
Memrise
Memrise is a more flexible and personalized tool, offering a wider variety of learning paths compared to Duolingo. While Duolingo works well for beginners, Memrise gives learners more freedom and variety. Many of our students have transitioned from Duolingo to Memrise once they feel ready to dive deeper into the language.

Grammar and Course Books
Traditional grammar books can be helpful for group settings, but for individual learning, they can sometimes feel rigid and unengaging. At Learn German America, we focus on blending practical language usage with solid grammar foundations, without relying too heavily on conventional textbooks. Below are some materials that work well for learners looking for flexibility:
McGraw Hill’s Practical German Program
This program is highly recommended for individuals who want to practice German in real-world contexts. It blends grammar exercises with conversational practice, and it's a great choice for independent learners. You can also explore more of their resources for targeted language improvement.
Hueber and Westermann Textbooks
Though we don't recommend traditional textbooks for individual learning, the resources from Hueber and Westermann can be great for deep-diving into specific aspects of the language, especially for those transitioning into intermediate levels.
